Those of you who are new to babywearing, you might be thinking, “So, do you, like, wear your baby like you wear a shirt?” Well, not exactly.
Babywearing has been around for centuries. In fact, it is has been practiced by many cultures, just not widely practiced in western civilization. But, it’s definitely making a comeback because many parents are realizing the positive benefits of wearing their baby.
Here are the Top 3 Reasons to Wear Your Baby:
- It encourages bonding. There’s nothing like a strong bond between mother and baby. For the last 9 months, your baby became real intimate with your internal body. She knows the sound of your heart, the sound of your stomach growling, and the feel of a warm liquid blanket surrounding her. When she is born into the world, that all comes to a screeching halt because she now has to function on her own. Baby wearing continues that close bond your baby had with you while she was still in your womb. She continues to listen to your heart beat, the rhythm of your breathing, and your warm touch.
- Your baby cries less. According to BabyWearing International, one study found that 43% of 6-week old babies cried less when they are carried. Any parent would agree that any solution to help baby cry less is worth looking into! Millions of dollars are spent on gear and equipment to calm babies. And when you’re sleep deprived, as cranky as the baby, and can’t function like a normal human being, wearing your baby is a great way to give yourself and your baby a break from all the crying.
- You can get stuff done. As a stay-at-home mom who also home schools, it’s important for me to stay on top of things. When you wear your baby, guess what? You have two hands to work with! It’s amazing how much stuff you can get done with two hands! It’s the little the things. It’s a win-win situation when baby can sleep in your carrier and you’re able to get work done. I’ve been able to cook dinner, do laundry, work on my computer, and help my kids out with their school work while wearing my baby.
I have been using Moby Wrap since my son was born and that’s been 11 years ago. I like the Moby Wrap because I feel like my back is supported despite my baby’s weight. The material stretches which keeps the baby nice and snug. It takes some practice to wrap yourself, but, you’ll get the hang of it in no time!
My baby is now 8 months old. She is crawling like a pro, pulling up on things, and will be walking before we know it. We don’t wear her as much, but I do miss those times where she would just snuggle inside her carrier and go right to sleep. It’s a special time and it will only last for a little while. If you can, wear your baby, bond with her, and view it as a special moment in time that will only last for a short time.
These are just my top 3 reason to wear your baby. Do you wear your baby? Tell me what your top reasons are! I would love to hear it. Leave a comment below!
