The beauty of homeschooling my kids is learning about different places all throughout the world. Some places inspire us so much we start talking about visiting that place. And that is what happened when we discovered a place called Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Our inspiration began when we learned about the different state parks all throughout the United States. Much of these national parks are free to go enter. And anytime I hear the word “free”, my ears start to perk up!
Truth is, not every national park is free to enter. However, it is much less expensive than admission to a theme park! And it’s a great way to learn about nature and God’s beautiful and amazing creation.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming is located less than 5 miles from Grand Teton National Park and 60 miles from the south gate of Yellowstone National Park. It’s a great base location if you want to have the flexibility of visiting the national parks or just hanging out in the local town.
Jackson Hole does not disappoint! During the winter time, it’s a great place to go skiing with the family. But, we went during the summer, which is just as good. It’s not as busy, which can be an advantage if you’re looking to vacation somewhere that’s not crowded. For us, it was just right. I just can’t stop thinking about how beautiful the weather was and how crisp the air smelled!
Without further due, here are my Top 5 Fun Family Things to Do:
- Aerial Tram, Teton Village
This was definitely a fun experience for our family. The Aerial Tram took us up 10,450 ft where we got an amazing view of Jackson Hole Valley and the Grand Tetons! It’s a great spot to take photos. Also, don’t forget to take a sweater or jacket. Even though it was summer weather, it dropped a few degrees when we reached the top.
What’s better than the amazing view? Corbet’s Cabin! Take a break here to use the restroom and grab their world famous gourmet waffles!
Tip: Bring hand sanitizer. While we were there, the faucet in the bathroom wasn’t working. It’s always a good idea to be prepared!
2. TSS Wildlife Expeditions – Sunset Tour
If you love to explore, this tour is a lot of fun! Your guide picks you up right at your hotel or resort. Talk about door-to-door service!
Then, they offer you a complimentary beverage like tea, hot cocoa, coffee, water, and a snack. The kids had chips and crackers.
After you’re nice and comfortable, your guide takes you on a wildlife tour in Jackson Hole and parts of the Grand Teton National Park.
Tip: The entry fee to Grand Teton National Park is not included in your tour price. So, make sure to bring extra money.
Nothing compares to hands-on learning like going on a tour with a passionate naturalist! Our guide was so accommodating to my kids, answering their questions and taking the extra effort to find wildlife animals so the kids could spot them.
Tip: Make sure to bring bug spray! Better yet, spray some on before you go on the tour. Mosquitoes at dusk were brutal.
3. Grand Teton National Scenic Float Trip, 10-Mile
Since our kids weren’t old enough to do the intense rapids, we decided to do the float trip instead. This was still so much fun! What I liked about the trip is it was slow enough for me to take some scenic photos. It was also very calm and relaxing. Our guide gave us the history of the Snake River and how it got it’s name. He also shared with us trivial facts about the Grand Teton. Tip: Wear a long shirt, a hat, and put on some sunscreen! It felt like we were baking directly under the sun. 
4. Bar T 5 Covered Wagon Cookout
Horses, food, and entertainment for the whole family is always a hit! Covered wagons await their passengers and set off into a trail where you are met by a warm hello by the MC. He rides up to each wagon with his horse to greet passengers. From the time you get on the trial to when you arrive to the camp, you are sure to be entertained by Cowboys and Indians. At the camp is where they serve dinner, complete with a hearty meal with all the fixings! As you sit back and relax after a fulfilling dinner, Bar T 5 Band begins to entertain. As you can see, they like to involve adult and kids! This is definitely an experience you’ll want to do with the family!
I could’ve visited here EVERY DAY if I could! The ice cream is sooooo good! It’s all natural and organic ice cream! When we passed by this place, we quickly discovered how popular it was by the line out the door. This is a great place to stop for dessert and roam around Jackson. There are plenty of shops to visit where you can pick up a souvenir or two and stroll around in the square where the kids can run and play.

We stayed a night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming a fews years back. We were on a camping trip and I got cold and said, “Let us stay at a resort.” The area was lovely and warm inside. 🙂

This looks like an amazing trip – my kids would have been in heaven when they were younger and I think they’d still enjoy it today.
It’s a great destination for the whole family. There are fun things to do for every age!
I remember going to the Grand Tetons as a kid. We went on the float trip on the Snake River in the early morning and saw a bald eagle. We were then picked up by a wagon and taken to a chuckwagon breakfast. It was so beautiful! I love the idea of the naturalist trip. Living in Colorado, we might have to take a trip up there and do some of these things. Thanks for sharing!
It’s encouraging to know you still remember that trip as a kid. That was my hope for my kids…that they would remember trips like this. In fact, my son said out of all the family vacations we went on, Jackson Hole was his favorite!
